AN AVATAR CONTEST FOR 1º ESO STUDENTS

He / She is... young/old, fat/thin, good-looking/ugly, tall/short //
He / She has got... long/short...curly/straight...dark/fair...hair  //  ... brown/blue/green/big/small...eyes, etc).
COME ON, JOIN OUR AVATAR CONTEST !!
GOOD LUCK !!!

TEEN TOPICS (online homework for 4º ESO students)

We have read the comments and remarks made by Jess, Mickey, Ken, Jenny and Mollie, talking about the world of teenagers today.
(See  Student's book for reference, pages 8-9)
Now you must choose one of the topics from the vocabulary of the unit (animal rights, environmental problems, music, sport, technology, the developing world, school life, war and terrorism, fashion, television and cinema), and write a similar text stating your opinion in four or five sentences.
If you decide to choose a topic which has already been chosen by somebody else, you can start a discussion by saying if you agree or disagree with him/her, and why.

GRADUATION DAY

The Graduation ceremony took place on Thursday 21st June. The eldest students had a very special day with a little bit of everything - memories, speeches, elegant suits and dresses, music, photos, diplomas, snacks, videos, more photos, dinner, presents and surprises, dancing, hugs, kisses and tears.
Our message for them was written on a poster:
BEHIND YOU ARE MEMORIES,
BESIDE YOU ARE FRIENDS,
BEFORE YOU ARE DREAMS.

Enjoy life & live it to the full.
Best of luck from...
...your English teachers.

FUN GRAMMAR: CREATING QUESTIONNAIRES!!

The students in 4º were supposed to practise the structures of the 2nd Conditional by creating their own questionnaires (similar to that on page 101 of the coursebook: HOW ROMANTIC ARE YOU?).

Some intended to test how sexy, how tolerant, how sensitive, how polite, how artistic, how ‘fashion’ or how daring they were.
Nevertheless, to illustrate this entry with samples of the work done by the students, I have chosen the topic which has been selected by most of them:

        HOW   ADVENTUROUS   ARE   YOU ?

1. If you got lost in the jungle, you would…
    a) …search for people to help you
    b) …make a compass to guide you.
    c) …feed a tiger, tame it and teach it to protect you.
       // taken from the questionnaire by Juan B. Barroso,  4ºB // (1*)

2. If you were in a zoo and someone told me to touch a snake, you would…
    a) …start crying because you hate snakes!
    b) …be afraid but you would touch it anyway.
    c) …love the experience because the touch of their skin is very nice.
// taken from the questionnaire by Paula Llorente, 4ºA // (2*)

3. If you had to travel somewhere, you would…
    a) …go to your village, which is a peaceful place where you could visit your family.
    b) …discover some new civilised country, like England, France, Italy…
    c) …travel to some mountainous region to do climbing, or to Africa on a safari.
// taken from the questionnaire by Sandra Merino, 4ºA // (3*)

4. If you were walking down the street and you found an abandoned house, you would…
    a) …walk away very quickly because you would be afraid.
    b) …enter the house but you would leave it very soon.
    c) …settle into the house and spend the night there.
// taken from the questionnaire by Adriana Sánchez, 4ºA // (4*)

5. It it were your birthday, you would ask for…
    a) …a weekend at a spa.
    b) …a day out rafting.
    c) …an exciting bungee jump.
// taken from the questionnaire by Elena González, 4ºA // (5*)

6. If your friend invited you to try and climb the Mont Blanc with him, you would…
    a) …accompany him, even though you are not in a good physical form.
    b) …ask him to climb La Maroma instead.
    c) …refuse to go because you have fear of heights and easily get dizzy.
// taken from the questionnaire by Javier Medianero, 4ºA // (6*)

7. If you were one of the characters in a Mario Bros videogame, you would be…
    a) …Toad.
    b) …Bowser.
    c) …Mario himself.
// taken from the questionnaire by Mariola Sánchez, 4ºA // (7*)

KEY:
a) answers: 1 point  //  b) answers: 2 points  // c) answers: 3 points

·       7 – 11 points:
You are not an adventure person (6*). You don’t even enjoy watching ‘Indiana Jones’ on TV (5*). You don’t like living new experiences in your life (3*). You may prefer sleeping to having a good time (1*). You are afraid of almost everything (4*). Definitely, you have to change (3*). You must improve your attitude (4*), face your fears (4*) and open your heart to the world (2*). Otherwise you will miss incredible things (4*)

·       12 – 16 points:
You love adventures when you play a game, but not in real life (7*). You are a normal person with common likes and preferences (6*). A little calculated risk from time to time is not too dangerous (5*). You would like to do many things but you are an insecure person (2*). You are practical and responsible and so before doing anything you always think about its consequences (3*). At times you hesitate too much and you may lose unique opportunities some day (4*).

·       17 – 21 points_
You are extremely adventurous but be careful,  sometimes you go too far (5*). You like to challenge impossible goals and are not afraid of anything (1*). You love exciting things and live your life to the limit, so some people near you think that you are crazy (6*). As far as you are concerned, you would rather live in a fiction world (7*).You enjoy travelling and getting to know other languages and cultures (2*). You know how to spend your fee time and enjoy life, but you also need to be thoughtful sometimes (3*). In short, you have reached the adventurous expert level !!! Nothing frightens you and you are capable of anything, but remember to be careful because someday you can be given an unnecessary scare (4*).

END OF THE 2ND TERM

Queridos estudiantes:
Maths can help explain the same idea. See how easy it is to prove it:
