WISHING YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS !

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU (Mariah Carey)

I don't want a lot for Christmas.
There is just one thing I need.
I don't care about the presents
underneath the Christmas tree.
I just want you for my own,
more than you could ever know.
       Make my wish come true.
All I want for Christmas is you.
I don't want a lot for Christmas.
There is just one thing I need.
And I don't care about the presents
underneath the Christmas tree.
I don't need to hang my stocking
       there upon the fireplace.
Santa Claus won't make me happy
with a toy on Christmas Day.
I just want you for my own,
more than you could ever know.
Make my wish come true.
All I want for Christmas is you. You, baby

Oh I won't ask for much this Christmas,
I won't even wish for snow.
And I'm just gonna keep on waiting
underneath the mistletoe.
I won't make a list and send it
to the North Pole for Saint Nick.
I won't even stay awake to
       hear those magic reindeer clicks.
'Cause I just want you here tonight,
holding on to me so tight.
What more can I do?
Baby all I want for Christmas is you. You.

Oh all the lights are shining
so brightly everywhere,
and the sound of children's
laughter fills the air.
       And everyone is singing,
I hear those sleigh bells ringing.
Santa won't you bring me the one I really need?
Won't you please bring my baby to me?
Oh I don't want a lot for Christmas.
This is all I'm asking for.
I just want to see my baby
standing right outside my door.
Oh I just want you for my own
more than you could ever know.
       Make my wish come true.
Baby, all I want for Christmas is you, baby.

All I want for Christmas is you, baby. All I want for Christmas is you, baby. All I want for Christmas is you, baby.

¿querrás traerme a mi amor?

The students in 4ºA decided not to participate in the competition, as they were too busy with their studies and exams, but all of them wrote their essays with 'Christmas' as the general topic. I have corrected their writing and selected the fragments which are included here.
This is how young people like you can express their OPINIONS ABOUT CHRISTMAS:

This time of the year makes me feel happy because I remember that when I was younger I used to live Christmas in great excitement, as ‘the Three Magic Kings’ were going to bring me my favourite toys – and also Santa Claus would bring me a little present before. Before those special nights I used to spend a lot of time tidying up my room and preparing cakes for them…
(Sofía Fernández)

Christmas is beautiful because you see people of your family that you haven´t seen for a long time. For instance, my uncle who lives in Barcelona. My grandmother is too traditional and she gives me money to buy something. I sing carols with my family and we eat many chocolates and sweets. I also like Christmas time because I love to see the illusion in the face of my little sister when Santa Claus and the Three Wise Men come home.
(Paula Llorente)

In my opinion, Christmas is the most beautiful time of the year. Families gather and share the last days of the year together. Tasty meals are prepared, people receive gifts and sing carols, the Christmas ornaments are set… in general  all is joy and peace. In Spain we have the day of ‘Santos Inocentes’ on the 28th December, when we play jokes on our family and friends, but the best day is ‘Nochevieja’ (New Year’s Eve), when you have dinner with your family and then… party!!!
(Rocío Blanca)

Children like Christmas because they receive a lot of  presents, meet their families and friends, write letters to the Three Wise Men (in some places only), and there are vacations, chocolates, illusions, surprises, lights…
But, for many people, it is very sad because some dear person died a short time ago, or it is the date of the death of a special someone…
(Mariola Sánchez)

It is a Christian celebration. They celebrate the birth of Jesus and, especially in Spain, people put ‘el Belén’, which is a Nativity scene with all the popular figures on it. In Anglo-Saxon tradition, they usually decorate a ‘Christmas tree’. But I’m Jewish, so the important celebration for me is called ‘Januca’. The januca is a special candelabrum with nine candles to be lit, and we receive presents too. I like Christmas, it’s interesting and I respect it, but for me it is more beautiful to celebrate Januca.
(Sara Abecasis)

There are many nice elements and a lot of fun: the thrill, the presents, the Christmas lights and songs, the family meals… The most beautiful moment for me is December 25 in the morning. All the family are going to my grandparents’ house to open the presents which ‘Father Christmas’ has left. The living room is amazing. It is full of surprises, especially for children, and then we eat the special ‘canelones’ that my grandmother cooks for the ocassion.
Sincerely, I consider myself very fortunate to be able to celebrate such beautiful Christmas with my family.
(Javier Medianero)

I love the happiness atmosphere which is typical at Christmas. It’s the time when families can eat and be together, something that is more and more difficult nowadays. Christmas holidays are shorter than summer holidays, but they are more special in my opinion. I like the traditional things that you can do at Christmas, like sending cards, singing carols with your friends or decorating your house (though sending cards has been replaced by writing e-mails!).
(María López)

Christmas’ Eve is more familiar, and I like to stay with many people in the important days. But in New Year’s Eve, after eating the twelve lucky grapes, everybody goes out to parties. That’s why I prefer New Year’s Eve, because I have dinner with my family but then I go to a party with my friends.

GOODBYE TO MY STUDENTS... SEE YOU SOON!

Hi my students!

It is Encarni, your English teacher. I just wanted to say goodbye and maybe, why not, see you soon....

Thank you for all the things you have taught me. It was a pleasure having been your teacher for this month. I will never forget you.

I do not forget that we had some pending issues such as the song my students of 3 ESO liked... Noah's Diary soundtrack OR some video recording my students of 1 ESO A wanted to do as extra activity.
OF COURSE, I cannot forget my tutorship, 1 ESO D and my other group 2 ESO

Please, REGISTER FOR THE POSTER COMPETITION that the English Dpt. is organising. It is great!

I wish you all the best

THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE IS NOBODY'S SPECIAL PROPERTY. IT IS JUST THE PROPERTY OF IMAGINATION...

SO PLEASE, KEEP STUDYING IT AND LET YOUR IMAGINATION BE FREE...

Teacher Encarni.

DESPEDIDA DE 3ºC PARA LA SEÑORITA ENCARNI

FROM YOUR TV TO YOUR CLASSROOM (V)

Enrique Lorca said "Chanel No 5" and "I'm -- fool to want you"(Singer: Billie Holiday). Well, the exact title of the song is "I'M A FOOL TO WANT YOU", so he only gets 2 points this time.
The video features the French actress Audrey Tautou (of Amelie fame), and the beautiful city of Istambul.
Marina Bueno (4ºB) also gets 2 points because she tried her own translation of the lyrics of the previous week.

I'm a fool to want you.

I'm a fool to want you,

to want a love that can’t be true
,
a love that’s there for others too.

I'm a fool to hold you
,
such a fool to hold you...

Here is the final classification of this game:

1st) ENRIQUE LORCA (3ºC)... 11 points
2nd) Pablo Tomás Dorado & Marina Bueno (4ºB)... 3 points
4th) Ceferino Sánchez (4ºB)... 2 points

FROM YOUR TV TO YOUR CLASSROOM (IV)

Guess who's the winner this week?
Yes! Enrique Lorca once again!!!  (Well done, Enrique! Certainly you deserve it because your motivation is so big and you always give the right answers very quickly).
A boy from 4ºB and a girl from 4ºA were quicker than Enrique but they failed to recognize the spot and the song. The product advertised is Volkswagen Think Blue Symphony, and the song is "Wouldn't it be nice?", a classic originally created, recorded and made a hit by 'The Beach Boys' which is covered here by Tiziano Lamberti.

We have a bit more complicated lyrics this time, so all the students who click on 'Comentarios' and provide their own translation into Spanish can get one point.

Wouldn't it be nice if we were older?
Then we wouldn't have to wait so long.
And wouldn't it be nice to live together
In the kind of world where we belong?

You know its going to make it that much better
When we can say goodnight and stay together.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could wake up
In the morning when the day is new,
And after having spent the day together
Hold each other close, the whole night through?

Happy times together we've been spending.
I wish that every kiss was neverending.
Wouldn't it be nice?

INFORMATION FOR THE STUDENTS:
This is how you can get points in this game:
* If you enter and leave a message (commenting on the song or on the spot, trying to guess the answers, giving your translation of the lyrics...) you get 1 point, just for participating, even if you're wrong.
* If you give the right answers but you're not the quickest to do it, you get 2 points.
* The winner of the week gets 3 points.
The CLASSIFICATION so far is the following:
1st) Enrique Lorca (3ºC)... 9 points
2nd) Pablo Tomás Dorado (4ºB)... 3 points
3rd) Ceferino Sánchez (4ºB)... 2 points
4th) Sofía Fernandez and María López (4ºA)... 1 point.

And here is the clue for this week:
Friday 28th... TO WANT A LOVE THAT CAN'T BE TRUE...
Can you find out the product being advertised and the title of the song?

viernes, 21 de octubre de 2011

FROM YOUR TV TO YOUR CLASSROOM (III)

Enrique Lorca Regueiro (3ºC) is the winner again!! Congratulations!
He answered very quickly (as the week before): the spot SAMSUNG GALAXY II, and the song IT MUST BE LOVE, one of the classics by the group "Madness".
Pablo Tomás Dorado (4ºB) also gave the right answers, but a few hours later than Enrique.

You can follow the first verse of the song as you watch the commercial:
AS SOON AS I WAKE UP
EVERY NIGHT, EVERYDAY,
I KNOW THAT IT'S YOU I NEED
TO TAKE THE BLUES AWAY.
...IT MUST BE LOVE, LOVE, LOVE...

And now here is the clue for this week:
Friday 21st  October    ...IN THE MORNING WHEN THE DAY IS NEW.
Can you recognize this line in one of the TV commercials with English songs?
Can you give me the title of the song?

viernes, 14 de octubre de 2011

FROM YOUR TV TO YOUR CLASSROOM (II)

ENRIQUE LORCA (3ºC) is the first winner. He gave the correct answers very quickly: La Caixa, and the song "From me to you".
The fragment of the lyrics that we can hear is:
IF THERE'S ANYTHING THAT YOU WANT,
IF THERE'S ANYTHING I CAN DO,
JUST CALL ON ME
AND I'LL SEND IT ALONG
WITH LOVE, FROM ME TO YOU.

The song was originally recorded by The Beatles, but the version in the spot is sung by Virginia Labuat.

And now, here is the clue for this week.
Friday 14th October: ...I KNOW THAT IT'S YOU I NEED...
In which TV commercial can you hear that sentence? What is the title of the song?

FROM YOUR TV TO YOUR CLASSROOM

Lots of TV commercials (anuncios publicitarios) use songs in English to advertise the products. I'm going to choose one every Friday in October, I'm going to give you a part of the lyrics as a clue, and... that's the challenge for you: CAN YOU FIND OUT THE TITLE OF THE SONG ? (The first student to guess will get a 'positivo' from the English teacher).
So you see, any time is a good moment for listening practice: pay attention when you watch television.
In November we might work with these songs in class.

Friday 7th October:  ...IF THERE'S ANYTHING I CAN DO...

When you're smiling, the whole world smiles with you...

INFORMACIÓN PARA LOS PADRES Y MADRES

El I.E.S.

WHO WE ARE... (2011/12)

The staff for this year is formed by three teachers: CARMEN RODRÍGUEZ (1º, 2º, 3º ESO, Tutor), ENCARNACIÓN MUÑOZ (1º, 2º, 3º ESO, Tutor) and CARLOS PÉREZ (2º, 3º, 4º ESO, Head of Department).
In the next few posts we will look back for a while, just to show something of what the Department has planned and carried out so far, and very soon we will present different ways for the students to take an active part in this blog. We hope you like it!

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG !
